FSET Services

The FoodShare Employment & Training (FSET) Program is a free and voluntary program for FoodShare members (recipients) age 16 and older who have an employment-related goal.  If you want to enroll in the FSET program, you must be receiving FoodShare benefits. You can get a referral to the FSET program through any of the following ways:

FSET Services 

FoodShare Employment and Training (FSET) is a free program that helps FoodShare members build their job skills and find jobs.

FSET offers a variety of services to help you achieve your employment-related goal(s) including:

Education & Training

  • GED/HSED Classes
  • English as a Second Language Classes
  • Certified Training Program including CNA, CDL, Welding, etc.
  • Job Skills Training Classes

Job Search Support

  • Resume development and refinement
  • Online profile assistance including email, job boards, and online applications
  • Connection to Employer Partners
  • Interview and job search skill building

Job Retention

  • Once you gain employment while engaging in FSET you can receive case management support for 90 days even if your FoodShare benefit close.
  • Transportation assistance
  • Work-related clothing 
  • Work-related equipment

Work Experience (unpaid)

  • Build basic work skills
  • Test interest and aptitude in a specific career field
  • Develop a local reference

Work Requirement 

Some FoodShare members must meet a work requirement to maintain FoodShare eligibility. This work requirement is part of the "Able-Bodied Adults Without Dependents" policy. It is a federally-mandated policy within the SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) or FoodShare program. 

An ABAWD is a FoodShare member who meets all of the following conditions:

  • Is able to work; 
  • Is not pregnant;
  • Is between the age of 18 and 53 (54 starting 10/01/24);
  • Is not living with a child under age 18 who is part of the same FoodShare household;
  • Is not exempt

 Work Requirement

If you are subject to the FoodShare Work Requirement, you can meet this requirement one of the following ways:

  • Working at least 80 hours per month;
  • Taking part in an allowable work program at least 80 hours a month;
  • Both working and taking part in an allowable work program for a total of at least 80 hours per month; or
  • Completing a Workfare FSET work experience activity.

Support Services 

Enrolled FSET customers can receive support services to help them complete FSET-approved activities. Support services must be reasonable and necessary for FSET activity and cannot be issued if provided by another program or is free.

An individual cannot enroll in FSET for the sole purpose to receive support services. 

Support services can only be issued for FSET-approved activities. 

Common support services in FSET include:

  • Gas cards for when you use a vehicle to complete FSET-approved activity
  • Bus Tokens/Passes 
  • Taxi Tickets (in limited areas)
  • Driver's Permit and License fees
  • License Plate registration and renewal
  • Interview clothing
  • Work clothing
  • Work-related equipment
  • Haircut voucher
  • Training and Education fees
  • Phone Minutes (one month only)

Talk with your case manager about support service needs you may have to complete your FSET activity. Some support services require approval of a manager prior to issuance.
